lil as sally & rob as jack skellington
"i had wanted to be sally for some time, and purchased
the wig for the ill-fated and never used shrek costumes of 2001. sally's dress was sewn together from unbleached hemp
cloth, then cut into pieces. each piece was hand-dyed and given its unique pattern - which wasn't easy, as no two pictures
of sally are alike. incidentally, the dying process was done in the bathroom of the travellers inn, in victoria.
then they were all crudely sewn back together by hand, and the edges distressed. since sally's a rag doll, i took
white tights and sewed fingers into the legs of one pair, creating gloves. i covered my arms and legs and started
stitching through that. i re-created her enormous eyes by purchasing 'white out' contact lenses that only allow
the pupils to show through. given more time, i would redo jack's bat tie and darken the pin-striping. we
also didn't realize until too late how small the pants were - as rob put them on, you could hear the seams snap.
jack's mask was a purchase - the only part i didn't make."
