alice in wonderland

"i had an entirely different costume in mind, but couldn’t figure out the drastic alternations i would have to do to the dress pattern. i met a wonderful man this year and the feeling wasn’t unlike alice’s, as she fell through the rabbit hole. with alice on my mind a great deal, i decided to shelve my original idea and make this instead - a case of art imitating life imitating art, if you will. i consider the background for this picture to be atrociously ugly, but somehow it works with this costume - it seems to embody the craziness of the missing wonderland characters. this has actually inspired a whole series of costumes, which one day will hopefully make it out of my head and through the sewing machines!"
